APRÈS LA REPRISE, LA PRISE I 2009 I 15’00”
New work, commissioned by Contour 2009
The new project by Wendelien van Oldenborgh takes as its point of departure conditions of work and more specifically the changing nature of production for the development of subjectivity. She combines three at first sight diverging themes: manual labour, women and production of culture. The film is made in collaboration with a group of women who were former assembly line workers of one of the Levi’s jeans factories in Belgium which closed in the same period as Renault, Vilvoorde. The women have found new roles as actresses after putting forward their experience in a theatre production. For this slide piece they share their story with students of the Royal Technical Atheneum Mechelen.
WENDELIEN VAN OLDENBORGH (NLD/°1962)
Van Oldenborgh confronts the past with the present in an active, participatory way. She takes specific historical situations as a starting point to examine social conditions, focusing on relations and gestures in the public sphere. In 2008 she exhibited at the Sao Paolo Biennial and had a solo show at TENT in Rotterdam. This fall she will take part in the Istanbul Biennial.
